The short version
The simulators run entirely in your browser. Nothing you type into a calculator is sent to us or stored by us. We use Google Analytics to count visits, and some outbound links are affiliate links that tell a partner the visit came from here.
What you type into a calculator
Income, ages, balances and other inputs are processed by JavaScript on your device and never leave it. There is no account, no form that submits your numbers, and no server that receives them. If you close the page, the inputs are gone unless your own browser chose to remember them.
Affiliate links
Dollars Ahead takes part in affiliate programs run by brokerages, tax-software companies, planning-software companies and their networks. When you follow one of these links and open an account or buy something, the partner may pay us a commission. You pay the same either way. The link sets a cookie placed by the partner or its network, governed by their privacy policy, so they can tell the visit came from this site. We never see your application, your account, or your identity - only aggregate reports. We disclose this at the top of every page and next to the links, in line with the Federal Trade Commission's guides on endorsements.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to see which tools are used and how people arrive. It sets cookies and records the pages you view, your approximate region, your device and browser type, and the referring site or search. We use it only in aggregate. Google's handling of this data is described in Google's privacy policy; you can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
Cookies
Cookies here come from analytics and, when you follow an outbound link, from affiliate networks. You can block or delete them in your browser; the calculators will still work.
Advertising
We may in future show advertising served by a third party. If we do, the provider will be named here first, and it may use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites.
If you write to contact@dollarsahead.com, we keep your message only to reply and to act on it. We do not add you to a list or share your address.
Children
This site is for adults managing their own money. It is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Your choices
Depending on where you live you may have the right to know what personal information a site holds about you, to have it deleted, or to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information and we do not build profiles of readers. Requests and questions go to contact@dollarsahead.com.
Links to other sites
We link to the IRS, state revenue departments, brokerages and other sources. Their policies apply once you leave this site.
